Let’s practice together

Weekly in-person and online classes, as well as monthly workshops and 1:1 sessions where I can tailor teaching to exactly where you’re at right now and ground you confidently in your yoga practice.

My teaching style integrates different modalities and practices I’ve trained in and practiced over the years.  Classes are intuitively led so that I can meet you where you’re at.  

What should I expect?

I primarily teach a slow flowing style of yoga, weaving together the Buddhist meditation methods of mindfulness and compassion, a strong focus on the breath and its healing qualities, and some longer-held Yin or Restorative poses to help soothe the nervous system.  I like to encourage thoughtful and conscious movement as well as deep inner listening to help cultivate a quality of attention and care that translates into daily life.

Inspired by the seasons and cycles, ritual, ceremony, prayer and music, I enjoy being creative and experimental, working with a variety of sequences and themes to help my students deepen their practice and understanding. 

For me, yoga is about coming home to ourselves - to feeling, listening, breathing and resting in the beauty of the present moment so that we can receive the intensity of life with more ease

My friendly, down-to-earth and balanced approach to yoga has helped to make it accessible to people of all ages and abilities and my intention in teaching is to take the spirit of mindfulness off the mat and incorporate it into daily living.

When we move our body, breathe deeply and listen to what’s going on inside, strong energies that swirl within (fear, anxiety and overwhelm) also start to move.

The stagnation starts to clear, the limiting beliefs and narratives fade away and the nervous system settles. Yoga is a practice which can help us find ease in these moments so that we can live our life to its fullest potential

FAQs

  • Over the years I have been influenced by different teachers and their styles of Hatha yoga and meditation. Here is some background on the styles that I primarily teach:

    Vinyasa Yoga

    Vinyasa means ‘breath-synchronized movement’ so with this style of yoga I like to teach slow and smooth movement through varied sequences of postures linked by the thread of the breath in a flowing, almost dance-like style, sometimes interspersed with longer holds. Breath focus is integrated throughout the class, helping to centre and quiet the mind.

    Iyengar

    Named after B.K.S Iyengar, this style is a structural, posutre-based approach to hatha yoga which concentrates on body alignment and is often used therapeutically. Precision work in physical postures is the meditative focus of the Iyengar system, which uses props, including blocks, chairs and straps.

    Yin Yoga

    Yin is a slow, nourishing style of yoga, which works our deep connective tissue: the ligaments, joints, muscles, tendons and fascia. It focuses on target areas to release this connective tissue, improving flexibility and energy flow within the body and leaving you feeling a deep sense of relaxation and calm. In a Yin practice students will be required to hold individual postures (mostly seated or lying down) for much longer than they would do in a typical flowing or ‘Yang’ class.

    Restorative Yoga

    In this style of yoga, students rest in supported positions over bolsters and blankets to allow the body to open, the breath to deepen and the nervous system to slow down. The eyes are closed and the focus is inwards. My restorative classes will include four or five poses held anywhere from five to 15 minutes, combined with essential oils, reiki, breath awareness and guided meditations.

    Meditation

    My meditation practice has been primarily in the Buddhist tradition so the style that I like to teach is called Mindfulness Meditation which is derived from a 2500-year-old Buddhist practice called Vipassana (Insight Meditation). It is a form of meditation designed to develop the skill of paying attention to our inner and outer experiences with acceptance, patience and compassion. Mindfulness is non-judgmental, open-hearted, friendly, and inviting of whatever arises in awareness. It is cultivated by paying attention on purpose, deeply, and without judgment to whatever arises in the present moment, either inside or outside of us. By intentionally practicing mindfulness, deliberately paying more careful moment-to-moment attention, we can live more fully and less on ‘automatic pilot,’ thus being more present for our own lives.

  • A yoga one to one is an opportunity to receive bespoke guidance and support and can:

    • tailor sessions to your needs, whether you're pregnant, recovering from an injury or looking to deepen your practice.

    • give you the opportunity to discover specific practices tailored to you and receive the adjustments and alignments you never knew you needed.

    • feel like a safer space for those who are new to yoga and would like to feel more confident before going to a group class.

    • ground you confidentally in where you’re at in your practice and your body

    • be supportive for whose who wish to advance or deepen their self or home practice.

  • You'll need a yoga or exercise mat and wear comfy clothing you can move in. It can also be nice to have a blanket or cosy jumper for the end of class, as the body temperature naturally drops when we settle and stop moving.

    I may have some yoga mats and props available but these are on a first come, first served basis so you may like to bring your own.

    Wear something you feel comfortable and can move in. Most people like wearing leggings/shorts that you can move in, and a top which is fitted enough so that it doesn't fall over your head if you folded forward.

  • It is! I’ll be there to guide you - no yoga experience necessary.

  • This depends on your injury or illness - feel free to send me an email and I'll gladly give you specific advice so we can work out what would be best for you.

    During class I’ll always offer modifications and suggestions that take into account any injuries of illnesses that are made aware to me.
